Tropical Air Conditioned Police Bus

Managed to get up on time today…

The first stop of the day was the National Archaeological Museum which has one of the best collections of Greek artifacts in the world. Of course. The antiquities here are fantastic, the museum itself has not changed much since we first visited except now it is much cleaner. A temporary exibit on coins was quite interesting and well put together, organized by god/demi-god it had information on each, a little extra artifact on the being and a series of coins from the various periods showing how the being was represented. I am not big on these kind of exibits but this one was very nice with just enough information to make it interesting. Then it was off to the Greek Parliment to catch the changing of the guard. A highly synchronized ceremony steeped in tradion.

After a swim back at the hotel we were off to Cape Sounion, a temple of Poseidon, and a beautiful sunset. We were driven by a driver from Australia whos family was originally from Greece and had migrated down under. Strong Aussie accent that would vanish when he answered the phone and switched to Greek. An interesting and intense man, he filled us in on all things political and economic. The temple and its setting is still one of the best uses of our time, please see pictures.

We walked through Syntama Square on the way back to the hotel from dinner, present were the usual protesters and the ever vigelent police. On one side of the square was a bus labeled on the back “Tropical Air Conditioned Police Bus”. It is a little warm here but shouldn’t the police not try to make getting arrested so attractive?

There are more photos in the ‘Additional Athens/Sounion Photos’ tab.

Evzones changing the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Neither moved. Normal for him, odd for her.
